Join Vattenfall to lead and shape the OT (Operational Technology) security architecture capability that underpins our operational technology platforms across sites and fleets.

This is not only an architecture role. You will act as a Technical Authority for OT security, owning standards, guiding engineering teams, and ensuring consistent and secure solutions across projects and operational assets.

You will play a key role in building and developing OT security competencies across Digital Engineering, while ensuring our architectures are robust, compliant, and scalable.

What you’ll do

Architecture & Governance

  • Define, publish, and maintain the OT security architecture baseline based on IEC 62443 and relevant standards
  • Own the design, selection, and lifecycle of OT security controls and architectures across projects and operational assets
  • Establish and enforce security standards, reference architectures, and design guardrails
  • Act as the technical escalation point for complex OT security decisions and risk trade-offs

Technical Authority & Capability Building

  • Act as Technical Authority for OT security, ensuring quality and consistency of engineering solutions
  • Guide, coach, and challenge engineering and project teams on secure design and implementation
  • Drive competence development in OT security across engineering teams (methods, tooling, best practices)
  • Translate security requirements into clear, actionable guidance for engineers, operations, and stakeholders

Security Engineering & Operationalisation

  • Own and steer key OT security workflows (segmentation, access management, hardening/patching, logging/detection, incident response, backup)
  • Ensure these workflows are standardised, embedded in roadmaps, and consistently implemented across sites and projects
  • Define and maintain OT Security Provisions for primary OT zones, including technical patterns and operational requirements
  • Support projects and assets in implementing, operating, and continuously improving these provisions

Architecture Integration & Stakeholder Alignment

  • Contribute to and shape OT/IT reference architecture, including zone models and secure integration patterns
  • Anchor security control decisions across business units, working with security and compliance functions
  • Lead design reviews, risk assessments, and formal approvals of OT security architectures

Qualifications

Experience & Expertise

  • Extensive experience in OT cybersecurity and security architecture, ideally in energy, renewables, or industrial environments
  • Strong expertise in IEC 62443, with experience applying related standards (ISO 27001, ISO 27019, NIS2) in real-world architectures
  • Deep knowledge of segmentation, DMZ architectures, secure remote access, and cross-domain data flows

Technical Authority & Leadership

  • Proven track record acting as a senior technical lead or authority across multiple systems or projects
  • Ability to make and defend architectural decisions, including balancing risk, availability, and operational constraints
  • Strong experience driving standardisation, governance, and cross-team alignment

Communication & Influence

  • Ability to explain complex security concepts clearly to engineers, operations, and leadership
  • Experience influencing teams without direct line authority
  • Strong mentoring and coaching skills, with a focus on building organisational capability

Engineering & Delivery Understanding

  • Experience structuring and documenting architecture principles and solution designs
  • Proven ability to embed security into engineering workflows, playbooks, and operational models
  • Understanding of OT environments where availability and safety are critical
