AI takes center stage at ShipIT 2026
w
Out of 34 submitted ideas, 16 teams earned a place in this year's ShipIT, a 24-hour internal hackathon held in Katowice on 22-23 September. For two days, our office in Poland was buzzing with ideas, discussions, whiteboard sketches, last-minute fixes and... plenty of coffee.

Teams from across Vattenfall came together to experiment and turn their ideas into working solutions. Some arrived with early concepts, others with prototypes already taking shape, but everyone shared the same goal: making the most of 24 hours of creativity, learning and collaboration.
As the hours passed, ideas evolved into demos, presentations took shape, and teams prepared for the final pitch in front of the jury. And while the projects addressed a wide range of challenges, one thing quickly became apparent: AI was everywhere.
And the winners are…
In the end, the jury selected Team E. They worked out how to make the use of agentic AI possible in SAP software development.
The audience favorite, chosen through the Hackers' Vote, was Team A and their project which uses AI agents to automate the analysis and remediation of software vulnerabilities.
ShipIT has never been only about winning. It's about learning, experimenting, collaborating across countries and disciplines, and finding new ways to move ideas forward, - says Jetske Zuidema, Director Customer IT and member of the ShipIT 2026 jury.
