Yunji's story: Navigating change with confidence
Meet Yunji Schuster
Yunji Schuster’s career journey spans continents and industries, blending global experience with a passion for adaptability. After earning dual degrees—a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Arts from EWHA University in Seoul—she went on to complete an MBA in Finance at the Hamburg School of Business Administration. Her professional story began in logistics, but in 2014, a friend’s recommendation opened the door to Vattenfall.

“A friend suggested I apply for her previous role after she was promoted. She described Vattenfall as a very positive working environment—and she was right.”
Transitioning from logistics to trading might seem like a leap, but Yunji quickly discovered the similarities: both demand precision, quick thinking, and the ability to manage complex flows of information.
“Trading is fast-paced and exciting. You’re constantly analyzing variables like weather, temperature, and outages, and making decisions in real time.”
The trading floor operates 24/7, and Yunji appreciates the flexibility that comes with shift work. “If you work a weekend, you can take time off during the week—go shopping or enjoy a quiet park. Plus, you earn extra vacation days.”
Balancing career and family
After returning from parental leave, Yunji’s role evolved to focus on operational projects, trading strategies, and business cases—allowing her to work mostly standard office hours to fit around childcare.
“As a mother, I find the work-life balance very good. My manager also has young children and understands if I need to pick up my daughter or stay home when she’s sick.”
While remote work is an option, Yunji values the sense of community in the office.
“My colleagues feel like family. I really enjoy the face-to-face interaction.”
Life beyond the office
Away from work, Yunji finds peace by the sea. Swimming and snorkeling are her passions—moments that recharge her energy and keep her connected to nature. Her story reflects the diversity and flexibility that define Vattenfall: a global perspective, a commitment to balance, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic environment.
