As our Senior Gas (& Power) Originator, your mandate is to drive PnL growth by originating and executing high-value commercial opportunities. You will identify and structure new risk pools, negotiate and implement respective deals, while also maintaining regular semi-standard business to further develop our trading business on the one hand and actively shape our portfolio on the other.

A core focus lies on developing scalable and repeatable deal flows alongside targeted, high-margin non-standard transactions that enhance the overall profitability and optionality of the trading books.

As part of the “Commodity Origination” team you will operate embedded within the trading desk, in close alignment with fellow originators, traders and key stakeholders, ensuring seamless integration of origination activities into the broader commercial strategy and into the trading books.

End-to-end ownership of transactions is expected — from opportunity identification and structuring to negotiation and successful deal closure — in close coordination with the traders, including navigating internal governance processes, securing all required approvals, and leading contract negotiations.

The role requires a strong commercial mindset with a clear focus on value creation

You have the following tasks and responsibilities:

  • Identify and originate structured and non-standard trading and customer-driven opportunities, translating market insights into executable transactions. Lead the pitching, negotiation, mandating and execution of bespoke deals.
  • Expand and develop differentiated risk and value pools to further broaden and optimize Vattennfall’s portfolio.
  • Be a driving force in the growth, innovation and expansion of Vattenfall’s Origination business with a clear focus on PnL generation and value creation
  • Continuous market scanning of, identifying and engaging with established and new counterparties.
  • Engage in daily exchange with the teams on the Hamburg trading floor to develop and advance innovative deal ideas. Identify potential new clients, ideas and strategies, while actively managing and progressing the existing opportunity pipeline. Manage and progress a prioritised funnel of structured deal opportunities.
  • Lead and manage the onboarding process for new counterparties through to successful deal execution and closing. Facilitate and steer internal decision making processes, aligning stakeholders across all levels — from traders on the floor to senior and executive management
  • Coordinate closely with Legal, Trade Control, Regulatory Operations, Market and Credit Risk, and Finance to ensure efficient and compliant deal execution
