Do you want to help shape the future energy system and support the integration of more renewable electricity into the European power system? Do you enjoy real-time decision-making, programming and data analysis? Join Dispatch Nordic as a Hydro Analyst / Dispatcher and combine operational dispatch with analytical work on hydro optimisation.

Dispatch Nordic is part of Vattenfall’s Intraday Optimisation Nordic department. We optimise Vattenfall’s Nordic asset portfolio in physical power markets, contributing to a sustainable energy system. Our team focuses on innovation, performance and flexibility in a rapidly changing European power market.

Your role as Hydro Analyst / Dispatcher

This role combines approximately 50% operational work at the Dispatch Desk in our Nordic Dispatch Centre with analytical work on hydro optimisation. In the analytical part of the role, you will support the development of optimisation and trading strategies, ancillary service delivery, and systems and tools for quantitative, data-driven decision support. You will work with data analysis, advanced forecasting tools and algorithmic trading.

As a Dispatcher, you will work at a desk that operates around the clock in a three-shift system. The Dispatch Desk is responsible for intraday optimisation and dispatch of Vattenfall’s Nordic asset portfolio, including bidding for and delivering ancillary services, intraday trading, and operating and monitoring algorithms. Vattenfall’s Dispatch Desk plays a central role in the Swedish power system. Working at the desk will deepen your understanding of the Nordic power market and provide practical insights for your analytical work. We value creativity, initiative and a willingness to challenge established approaches.

Combining operational and analytical work is an established and valued way of working within Business Unit Assets. It offers varied responsibilities and allows you to use operational experience to improve analytical solutions, while applying analytical insights to dispatch decisions.

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Work as a Dispatcher in the Nordic Dispatch Centre for approximately 50% of your working time, as part of the 24/7 three-shift operation.
  • Support our experts in continuously improving the optimisation of Vattenfall’s Nordic hydro portfolio, including optimisation and trading strategies, algorithmic trading and ancillary service delivery.
  • Support the development and improvement of forecasting and data-driven decision-support tools for hydro optimisation.
  • Evaluate existing solutions, identify opportunities for improvement and initiate changes that improve business outcomes.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with:

  • A university degree in a quantitative or financial discipline, such as Engineering, IT, Econometrics, Mathematics, Physics or a related field
  • Programming and data analysis skills, preferably in Python
  • Minimum 2–5 years of experience in the Nordic physical power market
  • Fluency in Swedish and a good command of English

You have a genuine interest in markets and trading and are curious about how prices are formed and how market opportunities arise. You are comfortable working in a dynamic environment where priorities can change quickly, and you can manage several activities at the same time. You bring a strong business sense and enjoy combining market understanding with data and quantitative analysis.
