Wind Farm System Designer (Junior/Advanced Engineer)

As a Wind Farm System Designer, you will help define the design and value of some of Europe's largest offshore wind projects, influencing investment decisions worth billions of euros and contributing directly to a more sustainable energy system. 

Business Area Wind 

Within Business Area Wind, we develop, build and operate wind farms both onshore and offshore to accelerate the growth of renewable energy. We bring together international expertise, technological innovation and operational excellence to deliver world-class energy projects that support the transition to a more sustainable future. 

Our System Design team combines engineering, economics, costing, sustainability and data science competencies. Investigating innovative technologies, regulatory framework, cost and price projections, we identify opportunities across Vattenfall's offshore wind portfolio from early stage of wind farm development to repowering.

Your role / what will you do? 

As a Wind Farm System Designer (Junior/Advanced Engineer), you will transform complex technical and economic information into actionable insights that influence product, project and portfolio strategies. Working closely with experts within interdisciplinary teams, you will perform techno-economical assessments to create value while supporting the continued growth of renewable energy. 

Your responsibilities include: 

• Performing techno-economic assessments to evaluate offshore wind farm concepts, quantify key value drivers, and support strategic project and portfolio decisions.  
• Developing offshore wind farm designs, balancing energy production, cost, technical feasibility, environmental constraints, and project requirements. 
• Driving levelised energy cost and value improvement opportunities by challenging assumptions, exploring innovative concepts, and identifying optimisation potential across projects and products.  
• Translating complex technical, economic and market information into clear recommendations through executive level reporting.
• Building data-driven analyses and automation solutions using Python, AI-enabled tools, and modern analytics platforms to improve decision quality and operational efficiency.  
• Developing neutral reference cases to  evaluate future technologies, enabling stakeholders to make informed decisions based on robust, transparent and unbiased analysis.

We believe you'll be successful in this role if you have: 

• A Master's degree in Engineering, Economics, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics or another relevant field. A PhD is considered an advantage.
• Experience within a technical, innovation-driven or cost-engineering environment.  
• Strong problem-solving capabilities and the ability to convert complex information into business insights and recommendations.  
• An interest in renewable energy and the energy transition. Experience in offshore wind or a related industry is beneficial.  
• An interest in Python and applying AI-enabled tools to improve efficiency and support decision-making.  
• Excellent communication skills and fluency in written and spoken English.  

It is considered an advantage if you also have: 

• Experience from offshore wind, renewable energy, infrastructure, consulting or other capital-intensive industries.  
• Knowledge of business cases, modelling, optimisation, portfolio analysis or techno-economic assessments.  
• Experience working in project, programme or portfolio environments.  
• Knowledge of tools such as Power BI, Excel, database or comparable data and analytics platforms.
