At Vattenfall, we don’t just “do energy.” We exist to help our customers power their lives in ever more climate-smart ways and to enable a fossil-free future. If you are looking for meaningful challenges and want to be part of driving real change, join our diverse and talented team — and make a difference.

Data Engineer – Analysis, Business Area Markets

In Business Area Markets, business decisions are made around the clock and at high frequency — creating vast potential for intelligent automation.

Analysis is BA Markets’ centre of competence for data-driven and automated decision-making. We work closely with teams across the organisation to deliver scalable, production-ready solutions that directly support commercial decisions.

As a Data Engineer in Analysis, you will join a collaborative Scrum team operating at the intersection of data, analytics, and energy markets. Our teams combine software engineering, data, and analytical expertise to support a wide range of use cases across BA Markets.

Your Role

You will combine hands-on data engineering with a strong analytical context, working on production-critical systems while continuously improving how data is processed, automated, and maintained.

What you will do

  • Design, build, and maintain well-structured data flows that power analytical models and decision support tools
  • Automate data processing and operational workflows to reduce manual steps and increase robustness and transparency
  • Take ownership of data quality, reliability, and scalability in a production environment
  • Contribute to improving engineering standards, architecture, and data practices across Analysis
  • Collaborate closely within your agile team and with stakeholders across BA Markets to ensure data solutions meet real business needs

Qualifications

What you bring

  • At least 2 years of professional experience in Python development, with a solid understanding of software engineering principles
  • Familiarity with modern DevOps practices, such as CI/CD pipelines, containerisation (Docker), workflow orchestration (e.g. Airflow, Kubernetes), and cloud platforms (e.g. Azure, Databricks)
  • An innovative and curious mindset — exploring AI and new technologies to continuously improve data and software platforms
  • Interest in the energy domain and its business context
  • Experience in or curiosity about financial markets (e.g. forward curves) is an advantage
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach when working with colleagues and stakeholders
  • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
  • Fluency in English

What we offer

  • A welcoming work climate with flat hierarchies, appreciation for initiative, open discussion culture, and zero tolerance for harassment
  • An international and multicultural environment with energetic colleagues
  • A dynamic setting where constantly evolving markets translate into exciting challenges
  • A strong Analysis community where we actively share knowledge and ideas across analytical topics in the energy market
  • A flexible, supportive, and agile work culture — without micromanagement — where teams are trusted as experts in how they deliver
  • Opportunities for professional growth, including internal rotations to broaden your experience
  • Flexible working hours and the possibility to work remotely up to 50% of the time

If you want to help shape data-driven decision-making in a rapidly evolving energy landscape, we look forward to your application.
