Business Area (BA) Markets maximizes the value of Vattenfall’s portfolio by optimizing and dispatching, hedging and sourcing for Vattenfall's assets and sales positions.  It serves as Vattenfall’s single market access to energy commodity markets trading in electricity, emissions, fuels, freight and renewable certificates. We are active across Europe with more than 450 professionals working from Sweden, Germany and the Netherlands.

The independent Compliance & Operational Risk Management (COR) function supports and challenges the business of BA Markets by promoting a compliant and risk aware culture which allows Vattenfall to move towards fossil freedom while safeguarding its reputation. This is done by identifying, assessing, advising, controlling, monitoring and reporting on BA Markets’ compliance risks. The scope of the COR function covers e.g. trading compliance, know your counterparty procedures, responsible sourcing and operational risk management. The team reports to the Head of BA Markets and to the Vattenfall Risk Committee.

For our office in Solna we are looking for a Compliance Officer who is comfortable operating close to the business, understands trading realities and can balance regulatory requirements with practical solutions. You enjoy collaborating with stakeholders, turning complex rules into clear guidance, and continuously improving how compliance supports the business.

Main tasks & responsibilities

  • The main responsibility is further improving the compliance function’s frameworks and tools, with a focus on data‑driven methods, automation and digitalisation. This includes developing, enhancing and maintaining compliance frameworks, controls and processes.
  • Together with the rest of the Compliance team, embed a compliant and risk‑aware culture within BA Markets. This involves playing an advisory role as well as performing controls of the business, thereby ensuring adherence to best practices, internal policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in general Compliance tasks, such as incident management, controls and reporting. Cooperation with other relevant teams such as trading and risk functions, but also contacts with authorities and industry associations may be required.

Qualifications

Mandatory requirements:

  • University degree in law, economics, finance, engineering, business administration or a comparable field
  • Basic commodity/energy trading knowledge, e.g. understanding of markets, products and general business processes
  • Experience with relevant Regulations (MiFID, REMIT, MAR, EMIR etc.) and good understanding of ESG topics
  • Hands‑on experience with GDPR in operational compliance settings, including balancing regulatory requirements with data protection principles in KYC, investigations and monitoring activities
  • Strong command of Swedish and English, both verbal and written
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks end‑to‑end
  • Fast learner and early adopter of new business and technological developments
  • Ability to challenge status quo in a constructive and pragmatic manner
  • Effective ability to influence, drive change and resolve conflicts in a complex stakeholder environment

Nice to have:

  • Proficiency in an object‑oriented programming language (e.g. Python, C++), substantiated by completed projects or practical applications
  • Working experience with algorithmic trading (e.g. trading, developing, monitoring, auditing or related oversight activities)
  • Experience with trade surveillance systems such as Nasdaq SMARTS, SCILA or similar solutions
