Offshore Glossary – Key Terms You’ll Hear
SOV – Service Operation Vessel
A large ship that serves as a floating base offshore. It provides cabins, meals, workshops, and recreation areas, and is the place you live and work from during your rotation.
OAP – Offshore Accommodation Platform
A stationary platform in the wind farm that functions like a hotel offshore, offering individual cabins, dining facilities, and leisure areas.
CTV - Crew Transfer Vessel
A smaller, fast boat that brings technicians from shore or from the SOV to the wind turbines. Transfers are shorter but depend on good weather.
WTG – Wind Turbine Generator
The turbines themselves. Each one produces renewable energy and requires regular inspection, servicing, and maintenance.
