Do you want to play a key role in Germany’s energy transition by leading the safe and cost-efficient dismantling of the Brunsbüttel and Krümmel nuclear power plants? 

As Vice President Nuclear Decommissioning Germany, you will head Vattenfall’s Business Unit (BU) Nuclear Decommissioning Germany and serve as Technical Managing Director and Radiation Protection Supervisor for Vattenfall Europe Nuclear Energy GmbH (VENE) with the powerplants Brunsbüttel and Krümmel. Reporting directly to the Senior Executive Vice President of Business Area Generation, you will lead a team of around 500 employees and drive one of Vattenfall’s most significant long-term projects, a mission that will continue well into the mid-2030s. 

Your responsibility spans strategic leadership, operational excellence, and full P&L accountability. You will ensure compliance with all legal and licensing requirements, represent Vattenfall to key stakeholders, and foster innovation, digitalization, and collaboration. Guided by Vattenfall’s core values; open, active, positive, and safe, you will shape the culture that drive the nuclear decommissioning in Germany. 

Vice President Nuclear Decommissioning Germany 
As Vice President of the Business Unit (BU) Nuclear Decommissioning Germany, you hold full strategic, operational, and P&L responsibility for dismantling the Brunsbüttel and Krümmel nuclear plants. The role also includes serving as Technical Managing Director and Radiation Protection Supervisor for VENE and the power plants Brunsbüttel, Krümmel. You report directly to the Senior Executive Vice President of Business Area Generation and lead the BU management team to deliver on business targets and expectations. 

Key responsibilities: 

  • Ensure technical, financial, and organizational prerequisites for decommissioning. 
  • Provide strategic leadership for the “Greenfield” programs at Brunsbüttel and Krümmel. 
  • Develop and monitor compliance systems for legal and licensing requirements. 
  • Represent the BU to corporate management, authorities, shareholders, and political stakeholders. 
  • Drive organizational transformation, innovation, and digitalization throughout dismantling phases. 
  • Foster collaboration, diversity, and a strong performance culture aligned with LEADership expectations, the Vattenfall values as well as diversity and inclusion. 
  • Driving decommissioning in a safe and cost-effective manner. 

Qualifications

You are an experienced and inspiring leader with integrity, a strong technical background, and proven ability in stakeholder management, regulatory compliance, and strategic leadership of complex organizations. Experience in nuclear or decommissioning is an advantage. 

You bring solid expertise in managing operational businesses, large technical assets, and technical risk management within an international matrix structure. A university degree in engineering, nuclear technology, physics, or a comparable technical discipline is required. The position is subject to a reliability check under §12b of the Atomic Energy Act.
