Junior Operational Engineer - VMWare

VPC Platform Management Department is a multi-competence department is responsible for the management of the Private Cloud Foundation infrastructure. This involves overseeing the operation of VMware technologies, ensuring their efficient performance and functionality, and maintaining the overall health of the virtual cloud platform. The department plays a crucial role in ensuring the Private Cloud Platform operates smoothly and securely, providing reliable and efficient platforms for hosting applications and services.

What will you do? 

As one of our new Operational Engineer on VMware based Private Cloud Platform, you will be working in the multi competence team responsible for managing all Virtual Platforms within Vattenfall contributing to Private Cloud. Private Cloud Platform is mainly built around VMware products consisting of VMWare VCF, vSphere, NSX, vSAN, vRealize Suite, etc. 
 
Your tasks and responsibilities: 

• Daily Maintenance of Virtual Environments based on VMware in on-premise Data Centers.
• Maintenance of internal security tools and applications, system hardening.
• Life Cycle Management of the VMware product suites,
• Continuous patching of the products in focus to handle vulnerabilities.
• Support by migration of applications to up-to-date platforms.
• Continuous improvement of the platforms, internal portals and dashboards, setup new functions.
• Manage operational incidents and work on the complex troubleshooting's to bring up the critical services online.
• Join improvement initiatives in Virtual Platform area Together with your team, develop and maintain operational policies, procedures, and documentation.
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure that IT operations are aligned with organizational goals and objectives.

You are looking for your first career step into a Data Centre Specialist.  You are driven by technical and operational challenges and have a strong desire to enable your team to consistently improve and deliver efficient, stable, compliant, and secure services.

You enjoy learning, and getting new skills and have a positive mindset. You are a team player, but also able to work independent if required.

Furthermore you bring:

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field (or equivalent work experience)
• Knowledge of IT service management frameworks such as ITIL
• Basic knowledge of Data centre related solutions and technologies
• Motivating, energizing and driving team performance brings you satisfaction
• You enjoy communicating and working closely with customers, stakeholders, and team members
• 2 years of experience in key VMware technologies such as VCF, vSphere, NSX, vSAN and vRealize Suite
• Motivating, energizing and driving team performance brings you satisfaction
• You enjoy communicating and working closely with customers, stakeholders, and team members

• General technical knowledge in Windows Server operations
• Ability to manage multiple assignments, projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Fluency in English, both written and verbal

Nice to have: 

• Experience in working with international team members.
• Experience with working with DevOps.
• Multicompetence in other supporting technologies such as Operating Systems, Networking & Storage.
• Certifications in VMware Cloud Foundation, Linux, Windows Server, or storage technologies.
• Certifications in ITIL, Project Management.
