About Sara Engström
“I became very interested in sustainability during my first degree and on my masters course I found out more about the important role the energy sector can play. My internship was with a consultancy which focused on energy policy and transition, but I was keen to get involved at a more hands on level when I started work.
Vattenfall’s mission-driven environmental goal really resonated with me. I did have another attractive job offer but I believed working at Vattenfall would give me the opportunity to have a much greater impact.
Supportive network
I found the trainee programme very interesting with plenty of development opportunities and a supportive manager. The group of trainees I started with also formed a close bond which means I now have a network across many different parts of the company. As part of the traineeship you get to choose to carry out assignments anywhere in the group which is a great opportunity to experience a different business area or country.
The supply chain project I am now involved in will help Vattenfall scale up in areas such as eMobility, which are vital to the fossil-free mission. Having the most efficient logistics systems in place means we can react to the very rapid increase in demand there will be for things like EV charging stations.
My role is an interesting mix of working closely with colleagues within the business across areas including operations, legal and finance, but also with external suppliers across the world.
I love living in Berlin but I grew up in the countryside in a tiny village on the Swedish coast, so getting away from the city into the outdoors is how I relax – whether its horse riding, hiking or mountain biking.”
