About Hans Geus

Hans has a Masters in Economics from Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam and a Bachelor’s Degree in Informatics from Hogeschool Inholland.

“I started my career as an SAP developer and enjoyed being part of a team, but after a few years it was suggested I should also try being a manager. I didn’t have any experience in management so it was a steep learning curve, but I had an excellent manager and learned a lot from him and have also been supported with training courses.

One course in particular – Train the Trainer – really had a big impression on me as it gave me a lot of confidence in how to help people develop their skills.

When I started my career with Vattenfall I wouldn’t have imagined I would still be here 14 years later – I didn’t think electricity and gas could be that interesting! But it is a very exciting environment to work in with many opportunities to grow and develop.

Developing younger people

My role as a manager has also changed. When I started I knew everything about what my team was doing as it was a small area. But the world changes very quickly now with new technologies and I depend much more on the expertise of my team.
I really enjoy developing younger people and it is very clear how important the fossil-free mission is to them. Every candidate I have interviewed this year has mentioned that ambition as being a major factor in why they want to work for Vattenfall.

With three children I don’t have much free time but my biggest passion is running – it’s where I get my energy and ideas for work from. Each year I travel with a friend to a new city to do a half marathon and I’m hoping to do my first full marathon in Rotterdam later this year.”
