About Arthur Besse
“Before joining Vattenfall I hadn’t worked in the wind sector before, but the principles of procurement and the contract mechanisms are broadly similar across the energy industry.
Finding the right suppliers for projects doesn’t mean just choosing the cheapest; our job is to the find the best-in-class suppliers who are able to deliver on their promises safely and at the right market price.
With the end of subsidies for onshore wind approaching, reducing the costs of energy production is key for onshore wind and Vattenfall. With the impact of Covid-19, the commodities price fluctuations, it is even more important to find savings and optimize site construction designs to reduce projects costs. Our team’s work is important toward achieving this and ensuring Vattenfall remains competitive and attractive to the supply-chain.
Fossil-free as part of every day life
We also try and incorporate Vattenfall’s fossil-free mission into our day-to-day work, looking for innovations and favouring suppliers who are reducing their own emissions or using recycled materials. The size of our budget means we can have a very positive influence on the supply chain.
I like the mix of working for a multinational power company on high-profile projects but also being in an agile environment where we have to react quickly if we want to be ahead of the pack I also really enjoy being in an environment which operates across different cultures.
When I’m not at work you’ll often find me close to a nice glass of wine or piece of cheese which connects me with my French roots! Although I’ve chosen to live in Amsterdam I also love the mountains so try and go hiking when I get the chance.”
