Discover how purpose, people, and ballroom dancing all play a part in her inspiring career path.
Heading
Can you tell us about your background and how you came to work in IT?
I studied European Law at Humboldt University in Berlin and started my career in a legal practice in Germany. Although I didn’t have any experience in IT, it was an area I had always been interested in. I joined Vattenfall’s IT Services team in Poland in 2016 as an IT Service Desk technician.
Was it difficult to switch from law to IT?
Not really – the training I received before starting at the IT Service Desk gave me a solid foundation. My first years at Vattenfall were extremely busy, but I had a lot of support and encouragement to explore different areas and roles. That helped me figure out the direction I wanted to take.
Stepping up
What does your current role involve?
We support colleagues in BA Markets and BU Wind, who play a vital role in optimizing assets and trading commodities. Their work is very time-sensitive, so resolving IT issues quickly is critical. It’s high pressure, but also very rewarding to know we’re supporting more than 600 people in their daily work.
You’ve recently stepped into a managerial role – how has that experience been?
Over the past two years, I’ve gained a lot of experience in people management. I really enjoy the challenges and opportunities that come with it. I want to be the best role model I can be and help my team grow and develop.
Dancing between disciplines: IT, innovation and leadership
How does your work contribute to Vattenfall’s purpose?
We inspire and offer our customers the best solutions to achieve their business goals, which also support a more climate-friendly life. My current role has opened up opportunities to add value in sustainability and innovation. I was even nominated for two internal Oscar awards, which was a great honor.
What do you enjoy outside of work?
I took up ballroom dancing during university and still love it – it’s a great way to relax and combine exercise with mental focus. I also enjoy running and representing the Vattenfall team in events like the Polish Business Run. I try to promote a healthy lifestyle among colleagues to maintain a good work-life balance.
