About Kajsa Roxbergh
Kajsa has a Masters in Energy Systems Engineering from Uppsala University and spent an exchange year at the University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia. She began her career in the energy sector as a consultant in network planning and power systems.
“I chose my degree course as it combined my passions for the environment and engineering.
I thought I might end up working in an area like renewable generation, but I started my career on the networks side of things. I soon realised that they are the foundation for everything in the shift to fossil-free, whether its transport, battery storage or micro grids.
Although Vattenfall is a large organization, the Network Solutions team I’m on is more like a start-up business. We’re focused on electrification of heavy transport including buses, trucks and ships and it’s an area where things are moving quickly, so we have to respond fast.
One of the challenges I’m working on is planning the optimum size of electrical infrastructure such as transformers and chargers. It depends on many factors such as how much energy trucks or buses will use and when they can be charged.
Balance between engineering and business development
The variety in my job makes it really interesting. As an engineer I enjoy working things out and doing calculations, but I also get to work closely with customers to help them understand the issues from a networks perspective. It’s also quite an international role as the team works across several different markets.
When I’m not working (and Covid isn’t an issue!) I really like to travel to other countries and see new places. I’m also keen on outdoor activities, such as skiing and hiking but as I’m about to go on parental leave to have my first child my spare time might be quite limited for a while!”
