Calling All Algorithmic Trading Enthusiasts!

Are you a student passionate about algorithmic trading in the energy markets? Would you like to work for one of Europe’s leading energy companies and contribute to the success of our trading function using your analytical capabilities, programming skills, and commercial comprehension? In this case, this student job could be the perfect fit for you!

For our office in Hamburg we are looking for 1-2 Working Students Algorithmic Trading (f/m/d) in the Trading Analysis & Algorithms department.

The Trading Analysis & Algorithms department within the Business Unit (BU) Trading works closely with the trading desks and takes the leading role in providing market insights, (fundamental and quantitative) analysis, and ultimately commercial decision support across all commodity areas. As part of the department, the Algorithmic Trading desk works closely with the other trading desks and the Algo Infrastructure team and takes the leading role in algorithmic trading and automated trade execution across BU Trading from the intraday to term horizon.

Your Role:

  • Supporting our quantitative traders and researchers in developing, testing, and improving algorithmic trading strategies in the energy markets
  • Collecting, preprocessing, and analyzing large datasets (think market data, forecasts, and more)
  • Building and maintaining data pipelines and tools for trading strategy backtesting and performance monitoring
  • Visualizing data and analyses in dashboards that would make any data nerd proud
  • Collaborating closely with traders, data scientists, and software engineers to prototype and deploy models
  • Conducting commercially relevant quantitative analyses using advanced analytics (because who doesn’t love a good challenge?).

Qualifications

  • You’re a student enrolled in a university in a quantitative subject like finance, math, statistics, or computer science, with at least 1 year left of your studies
  • You have strong programming skills (Python is your best friend), and you’re a whiz with statistics and analytics
  • You can handle large, complex data sets like a pro
  • You have experience or a strong interest in algorithmic trading and market dynamics. Prior exposure to energy markets is a plus, but not essential
  • You’re fluent in English (both written and spoken). German skills are a bonus but not required.
  • You’re a strong communicator and a proactive team player who’s ready to dive in and make a difference.

Additional Information

Our Offer:

  • Learning and growth: Gain hands-on experience in the energy business and data science/algorithmic trading field. Your brain will thank you!
  • Supportive environment: Join an interdisciplinary team and work closely with experienced professionals who are eager to share their knowledge. You’ll never feel alone on this adventure
