Do you want to help shape Vattenfall’s role in the decarbonisation of industry?
We are looking for a Senior R&D Engineer & Programme Lead – Industrial Decarbonisation to shape and lead the Industry Decarbonisation programme within Vattenfall R&D’s Energy Transition portfolio.
The programme brings together around 8 colleagues, combining strategic direction with hands-on involvement in shaping and progressing R&D initiatives.
You will work at the intersection of technology, business and industrial transformation. Together with the Portfolio Manager and other relevant stakeholders, you will shape the programme’s direction, identify new opportunities and lead a team of engineers, analysts and project managers in turning complex ideas into well-defined initiatives and decision-ready proposals.
During your first year, your focus will be on establishing clear programme priorities, strengthening collaboration across the project teams and ensuring that selected projects deliver concrete outputs and results, beyond project plans and proposals.
Your primary responsibilities will include:
Lead and develop the Industry Decarbonisation programme in line with Vattenfall’s strategy, providing strategic input and identifying new opportunities within industrial electrification and decarbonisation.
Translate business needs into well-defined projects and partnerships, and clear recommendations to support decisions.
Build trusted relationships across Vattenfall and initiate collaborations with industrial companies, technology providers, academia and research institutes.
Define and maintain the programme’s scope, objectives and roadmap, and ensure effective governance, prioritisation, risk management, resource planning and reporting.
Lead and coordinate the technical work and project team members across the programme, providing clear priorities and technical direction. The role does not include line management responsibility.
You are an experienced technical project or programme leader who can connect technology development with business needs and turn complex opportunities into tangible progress.
We believe that you have:
A relevant academic degree in engineering, energy systems, industrial economics, business or a related field.
Extensive experience in the energy sector, process industry, industrial transformation or another technology-intensive environment.
Experience leading projects, programmes, R&D initiatives or innovation activities, translating objectives into structured delivery and measurable results.
Sound commercial judgement and experience in connecting technology development with business value while building effective relationships with industrial and internal stakeholders.
Experience in leading and coordinating multidisciplinary project teams and technical work, including providing technical guidance to colleagues with different levels of experience.
Strong communication skills and the ability to prepare clear, well-founded recommendations for senior stakeholders.
Fluency in Swedish and English.
Experience in industrial decarbonisation, electrification, hydrogen, carbon capture, industrial heat, energy systems analysis or related value chains is highly desirable.
A good understanding of Vattenfall’s organisation and governance, or experience of navigating a comparable matrix-based energy or industrial organisation, is considered an advantage.
You as a person
You are proactive, curious and comfortable taking initiative. You combine strategic thinking with structured execution, maintain momentum when conditions change and build trust across organisational boundaries. You bring a quality mindset to results, documentation and ways of working.
As a technical leader, you provide clear direction while encouraging ownership within the project teams. You foster collaboration, constructive technical dialogue and shared responsibility for results. You help create a positive and engaging working environment within the programme, where colleagues feel involved, share ideas openly and enjoy working together.
