The department, team, and job 

As part of the Analysis department, the Fundamental Analysis team develops models and analyses on power markets, deals and assets, following an Agile / Scrum process. We provide model-based forecasts of power prices and analysis of price drivers to support decision making in the traded market horizon and beyond. Our analysis is based on fundamental power forecasting models covering our core markets on the continent and in the Nordics. We believe that the decisions we help make enable fossil freedom that drives society forward. 

The position is located in Hamburg as part of an international team of highly professional, skilled analysts, located in Hamburg and Stockholm. 

As a Senior Analyst you will work on: 

MODELS: Development of our mid-term fundamental power price model. 

• Improve our forecast by adapting our model to evolving electricity markets, such as producing better and dynamic assumptions for inputs such as electricity demand, stack, solar and wind production, etc.. 
• Develop new model features according to stakeholder requirements. Examples could be improving the PPA pricing methods, or our weather modelling. 
• Improve model architecture to make more efficient use of the cloud infrastructure and optimize code and data integration. 

ANALYSIS: Use the model for simulation runs to answer valuation and ad-hoc questions. 

• Provide market insights to support decision making for RES PPA pricing, project valuations (especially wind and battery projects), flex calculations, etc. 
• Investigate ad hoc scenarios to estimate their market price impact and the consequential impact on for example the Vattenfall asset portfolio. 
• Enable profitable trading strategies through providing fundamental analyses. 

As a Product Owner you will work on:  

PRODUCT OWNERSHIP. Own the continental midterm price forecasting product in a Scrum setup. 

• Build and evolve the product vision according to the needs of the various stakeholders and users. 
• Listen to the needs and manage the expectations of stakeholders and users of the product through providing an evolving roadmap. 
• Prioritize work according to business value, and deliver measurable value to the business.

We employ around 500 professionals who are active across Europe with offices in Sweden, Germany, The Netherlands, and the United Kingdom to drive the energy transition together. Our role in Vattenfall is to maximize the value of the overall portfolio by optimizing and dispatching, hedging, and sourcing for Vattenfall's sales and generation volumes. We serve as Vattenfall’s single access to energy commodity markets and trade electricity, emissions, fuels, freight, and renewable certificates.  

In BA Markets the mission of the Unit OU Operations is to drive the digital transformation. OU Operations consists of diverse and highly skilled employees from more than 20 countries. We work internationally from our locations in Stockholm, Hamburg and Amsterdam.

We are looking for someone with:  

• Ambition and the belief that collaboration in an Agile/Scrum environment yields high performing teams, and willingness to work through and harness the potential conflict that can arise. Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment is ideal. 
• The belief that working in an environment enabled by our core values of being Active, Open, Positive and Safe, helps us enable fossil freedom that will drive society forward. 
• At least five years of experience in a similar role at an energy industry related organization. 
• A sound understanding of Central and Western European (especially Dutch and German) energy markets, and knowledge of the Nordic energy markets is beneficial.  
• A strong understanding of quantitative methods, power modelling, and/or mathematical optimization, especially using Gurobi. Experience doing fundamental analysis using an energy market simulation tool such as BID3. 
• High computer literacy, in particular programming skills in Python. Experience collaborating using git/DevOps is appreciated. Preferably with experience with cloud (Azure) computing and databases. 
• An academic degree in engineering, mathematics, or similar, with courses in energy systems modelling. 
• Fluency in English.  
• Willingness to travel a few times per year, for example to Sweden for a team event, or for a training.
