In our infrastructure teams, we provide secure, reliable and scalable platforms that enable business applications and digital services across Vattenfall. We continuously improve our environments through automation, standardization and close collaboration with other technology teams.

That is why we are now looking to hire a Linux Engineer to join our international team in Katowice

What will you do? 

As a Linux Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring a stable, secure and modern Linux platform that evolves with the needs of the organization. You will work with platform engineering, automation, cloud services and system administration, helping to build and operate reliable infrastructure across on‑premises and cloud environments.

Linux Platform Engineering

  • Design, deploy and manage RHEL-based environments across cloud and hybrid infrastructure
  • Manage the full lifecycle of Linux systems, including builds, upgrades, patching and decommissioning

Configuration Management

  • Automate and manage configurations using Ansible, Ansible Automation Platform (AAP) or similar tools
  • Maintain repositories, system configurations and patch management processes

System Administration

  • Troubleshoot Linux operating system issues, primarily within RHEL environments
  • Manage services, packages and system performance

Scripting & Automation

  • Develop scripts using Bash, Python and PowerShell
  • Create and maintain automation workflows using Ansible, REST APIs and related technologies

Security

  • Implement and maintain OS hardening standards (e.g. CIS benchmarks)
  • Manage patching and vulnerability remediation
  • Collaborate with IT Security teams to ensure secure implementations

Monitoring & Troubleshooting

  • Monitor system health, availability and performance
  • Investigate incidents and perform root cause analysis

Cloud & Platform Integration

  • Support Linux workloads running in Azure
  • Work closely with DevOps, Security and Platform teams

Governance & DevOps Support

  • Ensure compliance with platform standards, including tagging, naming conventions, permissions and policies
  • Support platform audits and governance activities
  • Manage Azure DevOps projects, pipelines and access permissions
  • Support backlog management and continuous improvement initiatives

Qualifications

Who are you?

You are a curious and solution-oriented engineer who enjoys working with Linux platforms and automation technologies. You combine strong technical expertise with a collaborative mindset and can communicate complex technical topics in a clear and practical way.

As our Linux Engineer, you bring:

  • A degree in IT, Engineering, Science, Mathematics or a related field
  • Strong hands-on experience with Linux, preferably Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
  • Experience managing enterprise infrastructure environments
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement
  • The ability to work independently and as part of an international team

In addition, you have:

  • Experience with automation tools, preferably Ansible
  • Experience with scripting in Bash, Python and/or PowerShell
  • Experience troubleshooting complex infrastructure issues and performing root cause analysis
  • Knowledge of security best practices, patch management and vulnerability remediation
  • Experience working with cloud services (Azure experience is an advantage)
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences

Nice to have:

  • Experience with Azure DevOps
  • Experience operating Linux workloads in cloud environments
  • Knowledge of infrastructure governance and compliance standards
