About Rebeka Głowacka
“I began as a trainee in the customer service department after joining Vattenfall from school, but have since moved into more IT-focused roles as it was an area I found really interesting.
Although it is quite a different expertise, my earlier experience in marketing is valuable as the projects I work on now are all around understanding what customers want and making their experience of our apps better.
Being part of the Customer Service Online team for more than four years has given me a lot of insight into the benefits of the scrum way of working. It enables us to develop services and products for customers much faster than before. We’ve recently completed a major project to shift the app used by our German customers into the cloud which will enable us to be more agile to introduce improvements in the future.
Getting the best out of a team
I’m fascinated by how to get the best out of a team of people based in different locations and from different cultural backgrounds, so when the opportunity came up to be Scrum Master at Vattenfall IT it really appealed to me. Outside of work I’ve trained as a mediator so the soft skills and psychology you learn as part of that are proving really useful in this role.
Taking up my current job meant moving to Poland after working in Germany for many years. It was quite a big change as different countries have different ways of working, but I was given a lot of support by my managers to make the switch as smooth as possible.
I’m still settling into life in a new city but hopefully I’ll soon be able to return to my hobby of being a swimming coach to young people. I’ve always been a keen swimmer but in recent years I have moved more into the coaching side and have gained my licence.”
