About Heiko Wielinga

Heiko studied Economics at the University of Amsterdam and also has a Diploma in Business Informatics.

“I first began working for Vattenfall as a freelance contractor before becoming a full-time employee.
With Vattenfall serving millions of customers across different markets there are always interesting and challenging projects to get involved in. As an employee instead of a contractor I am given a lot of freedom to choose the projects I want to work on.

The opportunity to work with colleagues from different parts of the business to solve problems and make things better is also very rewarding.
I recently took part in a project with Data Product Owner Rebecca Jacobson and her team to use the power of SAP to enable customers to see their energy usage and cost across different channels. The challenge was to keep the solution as simple as possible and I needed to understand the complete flow of data from service to front-end.

I’m currently working on a major project to build a centralised invoicing system for Vattenfall’s InCharge EV business unit. It will mean a better experience for customers and will also improve efficiency for the business as the current systems operating across each market involve a lot of manual work.

Freedom to manage own time

It is a very challenging project but I’m really enjoying working in a new area and on a solution which will help customers live more climate-friendly lives.

The nature of my work is that sometimes things are quite calm and other times they are very busy, but I have a lot of freedom to manage my own time.

Away from work I’m a season ticket holder at Ajax and my son is a goalkeeper for a local team so I spend a lot of time watching him. I also really enjoy chess – it challenges the mind and every game is different!

Career path

In my previous role I was working on specific applications, but I was also increasingly involved in IT architecture and looking at the bigger picture which led to my current position. I’m responsible for the design of solutions and am currently implementing an invoicing system for Vattenfall’s E-Mobility business unit. It is a very international project and it has also given me the opportunity to learn a new SAP module, BRIM.
This was my first role as a Vattenfall employee and I was lead application consultant for multiple changes and projects including the implementation of a new CRM system. This was a really challenging project as there were also a lot of architectural changes needed in the IT landscape.
I worked on a variety of SAP projects for clients including Vattenfall (Nuon). They included an upgrade to ECC6 and sector-specific changes in the energy market.
This is where I first gained experience in the energy sector, working as a consultant at utility companies in the Netherlands. Projects included an implementation of the SAP IS-U sales and information module.
